Strawberries…a great summer fruit and an allergy risk

Strawberry Shortcake
Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie
Strawberries and Cream
Yum!!!
Summertime and strawberries are synonymous. We love them in our house and so did Jack until…he ate some and proceeded to break out in a nice little facial rash.
On our next doctor’s visit, we received some very sound advice. When Jen asked Jack’s doctor about his little rash, she was told, “I guess you shouldn’t feed him strawberries anymore.” Wow! What a genius. Thank you for that, doc.
So Jack’s on a strawberry moratorium and we have to be careful about bringing them in the house. Nothing like your two year old reaching with his outstretched hand while crying out, “Lubbies, lubbies!”
Let the strawberry eater beware! Here’s some background info and practical advice on strawberry allergies…

Here’s something you may not have known about strawberries. They’re used in many different household products, so avoiding strawberries due to an allergy may be a bit harder than just laying off the Smuckers(R). Some examples…
herbal teas
cosmetics
medications
skin care products
shampoos
air fresheners
laundry detergents
Moral of story? Read the label before using these products.
It’s not all gloom and doom, folks. Thought we’d throw some good stuff about strawberries too!
