“Up” Jack’s first movie!!!

Saturday morning I started feeling a little guilty (that Mommy guilt rearing its ugly head again) because most of my attention has been focused on Todd. He has two bulging disks in his back and has been in horrible pain. Jack had been getting the short end of the stick; however, he didn’t seem to mind because for him it meant lots of Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go, but I minded.

So, I thought to myself, what can I go do with him that doesn’t involve spending much time in the sun (because it has been 100 degrees + all week) and is fun for him and me? A light bulb went off…how about a movie? He’s never been to a movie before so I didn’t know how he would do with it.

Would he sit still and watch the whole thing or would he quickly get bored? I thought, “Why not give it a try. What’s the worst thing that could happen”?

We got to the theater and bought our tickets – kids 3 and under are free, so, I only had to buy an adult matinee ticket (BONUS!!) Then got Jack a treat…a Sprite! (Incidentally, a small kids Sprite was the same price as my ticket!!!) We found our theater, grabbed a booster seat and headed into the dark (the previews had already started).

As we walked around the corner and Jack saw the big screen for the first time he said, “Cool Mama”. We found our seats and settled in for the hour and 43 minute movie, “Up”.

Well what can I say? Disney/Pixar did it again. The movie was fantastic…I laughed, I cried, I loved it! The story line was great and very sentimental. They keep things moving to keep the kids entertained and, of course, the animation is just incredible. I felt like I was flying in the house right along with them to South America!

Jack did pretty well for his first time in a theater too! It took him a while to get settled into his booster seat but once he did he was riveted to the screen. A few times, during the middle of the movie, he got quite loud with his talking but other than that he did great! He drank his Sprite, snuggled into my arm and we watched the movie.

Now his feet never stopped moving around the whole time…but whaddya gonna do. He’s a 2 year old! We had some super special Mommy and Jack time and when we got home he ran into the house to tell his Daddy all about our little movie date. He was quite chatty about it for a while!! I can’t wait to take him to another movie again soon.

Hopefully Todd will be feeling well enough to join us!!!
